Elders4Change: Empowering Asian Elders

Asian Resource Centre of Croydon (ARCC) held a conference on Saturday 28th January 2012 entitled "Elders4Change: Empowering Asian Elders". The event was held in response to ARCC's recent consultation with Asian Elders from a wide range of communities. The consultation revealed that: -

- Older people felt that they did not have a voice

- Many services did not take in to consideration cultural needs of older people

- Lack of confidence to speak up and have their voices heard

- Need for partnership working

The conference sought to bring together older people and carers as well as individuals and organisations supporting them. ARCC had a total of 80 people that attended the conference from a wide section of community.

This event was a joint venture by the Asian Resource Centre of Croydon, The Asian Health Agency and London Civic Forum.

Asian Resource Centre of Croydon

Established in 1999 as a charitable organisation, Asian Resource Centre of Croydon (ARCC) was started with the view of bringing together Asian communities and to provide welfare services and other required facilities for the Asian population living in Croydon, as well as to encourage positive integration with the wider society in general.

The aims of the Asian Resource Centre of Croydon is to serve the needs of Asian communities regardless of religious/linguistic or cultural differences and at the same time aiming to provide support service to create a prosperous, healthy and better future for the Asian communities in Croydon.

Asian Resource Centre of Croydon is working particularly closely with other Asian organisations within the Borough of Croydon by providing capacity building support and assistance with a view that these member organisations build their capacity in order to provide better support to the groups they are serving.
